We all know that the Philippines belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire
where the oceanic plate and several smaller micro plates are subducting. Here
in our country there are many natural disasters that damage the environment and
the people living in it. Some of the possible natural disasters may happen at
any time includes earthquakes, floods, mudslides, typhoons, volcanic eruptions,
and many more. We must be aware and be prepared to any disasters like this. Being
prepared can save our lives and make things back to normal faster.
There are many volcanoes here in the Philippines and some of it is
active. This causes the country to have frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
The Philippines is an earthquake prone country. PHILVOCS records an average of
20 earthquakes a day and 100 to 50 earthquakes are felt per year. Earthquakes
are one of the most destructive natural disasters in the world. Earthquakes are
very dangerous because it can cause death, injuries, and extensive property damage.
Some of the destructive effects of earthquakes are from landslides, tsunamis,
fires, and fault rupture. We cannot prevent natural disasters like this but we
can still do something to reduce the risk or effects of earthquakes on us
humans.
One of the methods we can do is joining the National Simultaneous Earthquake
Drill. This National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill aims to enhance the
preparedness of every people in the country it also aims to intensify local
communities earthquake preparedness and increase the commitment of the local
government units in building safe communities. This program of the government
tells us what to do before, during, and after an earthquake. The purpose of
this is to help every people in the country to be aware, help them learn how to
react in this kind of situation, and to test the preparedness of the people
when a real earthquake occurs.
Joining this program of the government is important because it can save
millions of life and it can lessen the effects of earthquakes on us humans.
This drill teaches us the importance of planning for emergency response. Joining
a drill will help us to prevent panic which might lead to accidents. The trauma
due to being unprepared may be avoided if one joins in this National
Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. This improves the ability of a person to handle
an emergency and it can also reduce stress when earthquake happens. This drill
also helps us to identify the safe spots when earthquake occur.
When a disaster happens, whether it be a earthquake, flood, tsunamis, landslide or volcanic eruption, we must be prepared and aware on what is happening. Being aware and being prepared reduced some of the fear and confusion during a disaster. We cannot control disasters but we can still do something to make the impact of it lesser. We cannot fight natural disasters but we can use preparedness and awareness as a tool to face a natural disaster. “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.”
Hello Kent! I agree that this program can save millions of life and it can lessen the effects of earthquakes on us humans. It also teaches us the importance of planning for emergency response. Keep on writing more!
